Uterine Artery Embolisation
What is uterine artery embolisation (UAE)?
Fibroids are noncancerous tumours that can develop throughout the body. When they form in the uterus, they can cause heavy and painful periods, pelvic pressure, or even infertility. Uterine artery embolisation (UAE) is a straight-forward, unintrusive procedure to shrink uterine fibroids and reduce their symptoms.
To do this, UAE shrinks fibroids by blocking their blood supply. Once the blood supply has been stopped, the fibroids shrink. This will result in reduced symptoms over time.
UAE is a less invasive than alternate treatments, preserving the uterus and providing a quicker recovery time.
